Bristlecone Sunset by collectiveone Bristlecone Sunset by collectiveone
Out shooting the Bristlecone Pines with Nolan :iconnarmansk8:
It was great to finally get to see the forest for myself. The Bristlecone Pine trees are considered to be one of the oldest living organisms on the planet, some of which are well over 4000 years old. The skeletal remains of the dead trees make for some interesting shooting subjects.

I love the way the orange light is interacting with the knots and texture of the dead tree. Great shot.

good shot. the composition is nice, but i always feel that a heavy foreground looks better on the right than on the left. have you tried mirroring this?

Beautifully caught, Squire
The Fortingal Yew, in Scotland, is over 6000, nearer 9000 yrs old. Since the oldest bristlecone
died some years ago the Fortingal is now one of the oldest trees on Earth.

I have a cutting from it which will be planted in a friend's garden as a memorial to a mutual friend who loved Yews.

There are three other cutting planted in Somerset, two in Glastonbury
& one in a very special place. These we planted in '93, during a week-long
event "Tree Talk" that I put together. At the time, Sir George Trevelyan
planted one of them. The great man died three years later.
