Racetrack by collectiveone Racetrack by collectiveone
The Racetrack in Death Valley, CA.

A place I have wanted to visit since I was young. I have always been interested in the unexplained and I feel this place falls into that catagory very well. Not only is the place mysterious in itself but there are stones that move across the playa by themselves.
Scientists speculate that when the playa is wet the surface becomes slippery. Strong winds can nudge them loose and inertia takes over. I dont subscribe to this theory, nor do I subscribe so any I have heard to date. It is something you have to see for yourself and formulate your own opinions, or appreciate it for what it is. A mystery.

I always wondered how these rocks moved by themselves :O_o:

And yes I theorise that Elvis comes out here and pushes the rocks around...whenever he's not ducking photographers outside Mid-west Wal*Marts or hitting Dunky D's :XD:

read an article in the news this week about these stones. Something to do with ice. The photo wasn't as good as yours.

I've long been fascinated by this phenomenon as well, and like you, never subscribed to any of the given theories about it. Anyways, great shot! :)

Wow, that is wild! I've never seen or heard of this place before, but it looks very interesting. Here's my theory that i just thought of. At night, Big Foot comes out and rolls these rocks (or whatever) around, and then goes back and covers up his footprints. What do you think about that?!?! Just kidding, but seriously, this is an incredible shot, and something that I've never seen before, so thank you for posting this!
